MELASTI

There was a ceremony before the new cycle could begin.

Every year, before Galungan, the Balinese carry sacred objects to the sea. What the year has left behind — what has accumulated in the body, the home, the spirit — is brought to the water's edge and released.

This is Melasti. Not a metaphor.
A practice, still living.

Three forces hold it together: Baruna, the god of the sea who receives.

Batari, the divine feminine, offered wholly. Batara, the divine masculine, steady beside her.
