Born in Java in 961. Queen of Bali by 989. In 1011, she left this world and was deified as Durga. Every time this trilogy is worn, a piece of Jawa - Bali kuno is carried forward — not as costume, but as something lived in again.

BANASPATI RAJA

Banaspati Raja carries two names. Kalarudra — his fierce, triwikrama form. Ratu Bagus — his saumya name, spoken only in the temple's inner sanctum. Together they are rwa bhineda: two states of the same sacred force.

Born in Java. Sovereign matriarch by destiny. In 1350, she left this world and was deified as Prajnaparamita, the supreme goddess of transcendent wisdom. To wear this piece is to channel her quiet power.

The history and folklore of Queen Mahendradatta at Pura Durga Kutri, Bali — where a Javanese queen was deified as Durga, and remembered as Rangda. She was the daughter of Raja Sri Makutawangsawardhana, of the Isyana dynasty of the Medang Kingdom — what we now call East Java. She married Raja Udayana of Bali, of the Warmadewa dynasty.
